Sapphire Falls

12.31.11

Went here around noon!  The start of the trail was difficult to figure out but it was at the end of the road (Almond St.)

We turn R into a blocked off road where we ran into a shirtless hunter with a cross bow that told us an interesting story about the cops but we continued on with caution!  We hit a region where it was all rocksss thats when we started seeing so graffiti… which was just the least of it.  The deeper we went the more we saw.  We crossed the river like 8 times.  And i personally feel in like 4 times or something so i have a bunch of bruises now :\  Half way there we saw this fort thingyy across the river that was coming out of the side of the hill.  Totally graffitied up!  At the end the whole area was graffitied! the water wasnt really that strong but it was probably cause it was winter time! Didnt really walk into the swimming area cause there was a rope! Might go back there next timee in the spring/summer time.   It took us about 4hrs but its cause we chilled a lot.. haha i guess it took us one hr to walk each mile!

Kayaking on the Waters in LB

This place was pretty cool.  We parked near the curb opposite to the beach for free parking.  Once we walked into the area we saw a shack and lots of kayaks around.  The environment was really chill.  Kayaking for $9 (very good price just to kick it with some friends outdoors).  Process was easy.. we watched a quick safety video and off we went to our kayaks.. (didnt have to wash it or anything!!) I kayaked with ariana.  It was definitely an arm work out.  The area we could kayak was a lot bigger than the first place we went to.  All and all id give this place 4 stars because its outdoors, cheap, and no complications the whole day.

[we were next to long beach where people were power kiting which was super cool! went over and watched for a bit.  I  loved seeing people catch air over land and water. i definitely want to do it]

I found this hike online googling waterfalls in so cal or something like that.

The pictures i found were really nice especially a big enough waterfall for people to get me in.  That sold me and it was a def go.  When yelp gave it lik 4 stars and advised us to buy a permit at the sporting good stores but i ignored it.  When we got there the drive up was pretty narrow and windy…  Got there around 1pm (yeah yeah i know thats not early for hiking) so the parking lot was full!!  0.0 I MEAN we could have drove down the mountain and walked up we decided to pay $10 for princess parking.

We walked down from the parking lot and we started the hike (7mi round trip)

There is like a quarter of a mile walk of paved down hill which was not bad (until later). then we slowly got to dirty road which was pretty big and obvious so we wouldn’t get lost.  We were surprised to see so many people around.  Kids, dogs and people of all ages were there.  There were greens all around and we basically heard the river once we hit the shaded areas…  The area seemed very calm and siren.  We stopped many times to take pictures with man-made dams that create a very nice waterfall… logs that crossed the river and just the open wilderness.  Saw at least lik 4 dams and a lot of abandoned cabins along the way.  We crossed the riverr and bam we were theree..  There was A LOT of people like i said earlier which was whatevers but when i decided to go into the water.  The little tiny rocks there were so jagged and sharp.. it was extremely painful! (made me want to invest in watershoes or had my crocs with me. We forgot about the pain after a while and enjoyed the freezing water which numbed us and no longer bothered us too… It was a small to swim so i didnt get my hair wet but it was definitely deep enough to chill and get your body refreshed before returning on the hike back.  Hike back was realitively easy back but the up hill paved road slowed us WAY WAYY DOWN… all and all i was satisfied with this hike id give it a 4 star too.. because of greens, shade, friendly hiker vibes, and punch bowl at the end.  Id rate this as a 3 on a scale from 1-5; 1easy 5 hard
